Fresh Start

This morning I got up at 7:00, filled my CamelBak with sports drink, drove out to Boerne and got to the starting point for the Wheelmen’s ride about two minutes after they’d left. Ooops. But I managed to catch some folks who were taking it easy, and I had a very happy ride of 42 miles through the greenest Texas countryside of recent memory.

At various points we shared the road with a bull, a flock of sheep, four does and a buck. The does had just charged across the road in front of us when the buck appeared out of nowhere. He was maybe three meters ahead of us and he leaped over a fence with grace that I cannot describe. It was beautiful.

I got home, took a shower, and now I am off to grab some lunch and sit in with the afternoon knitters at the Yarn Barn.

NICE WAY TO SPEND A SUNDAY, DAVID. BY THE WAY, I FINISHED MY SCARF; IT’S FULL OF ERRORS, BUT IT’S BEAUTIFUL. THANKS TO YOU FOR UN-KNITTING THE FIRST HALF OF IT IN BITS AND PIECES. THE BAND-AIDS ARE IN FDKSBG AT 6:30, SO WE’RE TAKING A PICNIC. XXOO. 😉

We have a herd of about 40 in the surrounding fields and woods. The bucks are all in velvet right now – their antlers are fat with the fuzzy stuff of new growth. I love living where herds of wild animals roam.

good for you and the exercise – I’m always a lot more even tempered when I work out. Can’t figure out why I ever stop!!

I just love the country around Boerne, we go there every November for the Kid-N-Ewe. Of course, the Kid-N-Ewe is relatively new to there but the charm of the place is unmistakeable and hands down beats the other venues we have tried in the last 13 years!

The deer are out in force today. I was up at a friend’s and we saw a total of 15 deer just today. Wow, a 42 mile ride?? I wish I could do that. Congrats!! And it sounds like you had a beautiful ride. :)

42 miles? Wow! I’m thinking of that relative to your statement the other day that you are unfit relative to your high school days. That sounds pretty damn fit to me. (Makes me glad I was too chicken to go bike riding with you and Kelly last year. I would have dropped dead.)

Speaking of deer, we have a baby fawn this year, who was a spanish fighting bull in his last life. He zooms around in the front field charging at birds. (I guess all youngins get off on that cause and affect stuff.) :-)
