Busted!
I just got busted for practicing my violin inside.
The building I work in has a sub-street level walkway that connects it to a hotel across the street. The entrance to the building is an open atrium that looks down on the walkway, so any sounds produced in the walkway travel up pretty well.
When I practice my violin, I usually go to the basement level and find an empty room to practice in. Today the rooms were all locked up, so I hung out in the walkway area. Now, I’m not a virtuoso by any means and I still have problems getting all the way through the newer pieces without having to start over again. But I didn’t think that I sounded so bad that someone would complain to security about me playing down there!
Oh well. I’ve got a practice mute that signifigantly cuts down on my volume, but it also screws up the tone and makes it sound - well, muted. It’s a lot harder to tell if I’m playing in tune with the mute on.
What are these people, anti-art? Anti-fun? I suspect a conspiracy.

They’re just jealous. Good on you for practicing. BTW, I’m making a vest too.

They may have thought you were busking for money -

One of these days, I hope to be able to travel and make a little money as I go by busking. But I think I’m not going to get much doing my shattered versions of Bach Minuets.
I’ve been vacilating between bringing my violin and my knitting to work with me. Other people in the office take smoke breaks, so I figure I can’t really be faulted for knitting or practicing during my breaks. But until I can saw out a tune that I’m comfortable with, I think the violin is going to stay home. I just need to remind myself to practice in the mornings when I get up.
