Rainbow
I saw something yesterday on my bike ride that was so beautiful, I almost cried. I crested a hill and looked up to see a complete 180° rainbow against a background of grey clouds. I really wish I’d had a camera, but even if I did, it would not have captured what I saw. Amazing.

Amazing how we get what we need sometimes, ain’t it? Tuesday I had dinner by the river in the middle of a ride. There was a blue heron wading in the rapids and a five-point buck eating acorns. Nobody else even stopped.

SCENE: BANK OF THE AMERICAN RIVER
A WOMAN SITS NEAR A BICYCLE EATING A SANDWICH. A BLUE HERON STEPS THROUGH RAPIDS WHILE A DEER GRAZES ON THE BANKS.
HERON SPIES DEER.
DEER SPIES HERON.
HERON: Hey. What you doin?
DEER: Grazing. You?
HERON: Steppin’ in the rapids. Spearing fish.
DEER: Fish. True.
HERON: True. What you grazin’?
DEER: Acorns.
HERON: Acorns? True.
DEER: True.

In New Zealand they occassionally have two rainbows that go do the 180 thing. One will just be lower in the atmosphere.
That was one of my favorite things about the country. I sort of left the place with the conclusion that NZ was a place that should not have people living there.
