A few extra inches

Thursday, September 18th, 2003

So Lin needed a few extra inches on the caper hat. No problem. I took it with me to the local pub this evening so I could work on it while the fiddlers played. (They ended up starting really late, so I didn’t actually hear any music, but I got ambiance. [...]

Thanks for playing

Thursday, September 18th, 2003

Ah, crap.
With ten minutes to go, I borked the server I was working on for the RHCE test this morning. When the timer went off, my computer was in a state where it would not boot without manual intervention. That meant I got a zero for that section of the exam.
The exam consists [...]

A Rainy Day in Soho

Thursday, September 18th, 2003

Well, it might be a rainy day in Soho. Or it might not. But it’s a rainy day in San Antonio. I went to bed early last night and got up early this morning to get to work in time to take my RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer) exam. I’m going [...]

First Goal Done

Tuesday, September 16th, 2003

Okay, I have accomplished one of my September goals: I made a watchcap.

This is made from Lamb’s Pride Worsted, the darkest blue I could find at the Yarn Barn, on #9 circs. It’s a simple two-by-two rib pattern that I’ve found works really well for “caper hats”. I’m calling this one Pumpkinhead because [...]

Is that . . . Autumn?

Monday, September 15th, 2003

I’m sure it’s just wishful thinking, but the weater in San Antonio this weekend was positively Autumnal. Last Thursday a big wave of thunderstorms swept through, bringing 3″ of rain and a ten-degree drop in temperatures. The sky promptly cleared up afterwards and we’ve had this absolutely gorgeous weather all weekend.
I met with [...]

Moving Mellow

Saturday, September 13th, 2003

Last weekend I did some hard-core relaxing. I borrowed the puppas from my ex and took them out to the country for a couple of days of basking in the sun, drinking wine, eating really well (”all we have is leftover barbequeued cornish hens - is that okay?”), and hobnobbing with the local fauna.
Bailey [...]

Ride & Stitch

Thursday, September 11th, 2003

Tonight is the Thursday night ride through downtown San Antonio. I clamped a CateEye ultra bright LED lamp on my Revive and I plan to take a leisurely spin with the STORM folks through our fair city.
Aftewards I’m going to head to the Brew Moon to listen to music and work on the Sooper [...]

Apologies to FedEx

Tuesday, September 9th, 2003

The other day when I posted my rant on Federal Express, I was pretty mad. But now that the whole thing has passed, I feel obligated to correct what I said earlier. They really did a very good job.
The fault of the missing package was entirely my apartment managers’. They misplaced the [...]

Weekend o’ Cleaning

Sunday, September 7th, 2003

Okay, I am *really* going to clean up my apartment now. My mom and I agreed this morning that she would clean her refridgerator and I’d do my apartment. She had a head start and is already done. I’m going to tackle mine as soon as I finish this post.
Also, I’ve been [...]

When it absolutely, positively has to be abandoned somewhere

Friday, September 5th, 2003

So last week, I finally broke down and bought myself an iPod. I love listening to music, I love computers, and I love the idea of a pocket-sized 10GB FireWire drive that I can take with me anywhere. I mean, that’s half the size of the drive in my laptop, and all the [...]
