A Fistful of Python

Wednesday, March 31st, 2004

Wow, today was unusually satisfying. There’s this geek that I work with (and I use geek in the most complimentary and revered way here) who has started this informal series of training sessions at our company called Brown Bag sessions. They’re two hours long over lunchtime, and basically he got the company to spring for […]

Thomas the Triathlete

Monday, March 29th, 2004

My buddy Thomas did his first triathlon yesterday after only a month’s training. I am in awe. I was really worried that he wasn’t going to make it past the swim. The water was 55° and there were only about six other competitors out there in wetsuits. But he pushed through the swim and got […]

That’s why they pay me the big bucks

My dad and I have this kind of funny relationship. We really love each other a lot, but neither one of us really understands what the other one does for a living. When people ask me what my father does, I tell them that he’s a capitalist. Because that’s as precise as I can get. […]

And Now For Something Completely Different

Friday, March 26th, 2004

Work this week has been all-consuming. I was supposed to have two projects ready to roll out last Friday. I am still trying to get the first of them to a state where it won’t break everything when I deploy it. One of the interruptions in my schedule was the need for a targeted mass-email […]

My Sweater Is Finished!

Thursday, March 18th, 2004

Perfectum est. I guess I’m going to call it the St. Patrick’s Day Aran from now on since I finished it yesterday. It’s heavy and scratchy. Way too warm for the climate I live in. There are two obvious errors in the big Saxon Braid cable down the middle of the front and back (one […]

Pentultimate Post

And as it started, so it finishes. The Aran started off with a 1×1 ribbed collar knit in the round. Now at the end, it’s a 1×1 ribbed waistband knit in the round. Same thing really, just bigger. Today’s high in San Antonio will be 86° with sunny skies. Perfect sweater weather, no?

Stay On Target . . .

Tuesday, March 16th, 2004

I started the ribbing at the waistband of the Aran after work today. I changed from the #7 bamboo needles I was using to a set of #5s from my Denise interchangable set. Unfortunately, the fat plastic cable on the Denise needles drags something awful on this wool. It’s a struggle to move the stitches […]

Speed Bumps

Monday, March 15th, 2004

So close. So incredibly close. Yet still not complete. Here’s where we currently stand with the Aran: I spent quite a while on it yesterday. The only big interruptions were stopping to watch In The Cut, and incredibly bad movie that I really, really wish I had not seen. At least, I wish I’d had […]

Base of Operations

Sunday, March 14th, 2004

Here it is, the nerve center of my online presence: Richard Yoo is pretty much the only human being besides myself who has seen the inside of my apartment in the last year, so he’s the only one who can appreciate how much tidier this is than its state mere hours before. This is where […]

Hey, how’d that happen?

Saturday, March 13th, 2004

So I’m sitting on the sofa at Kelly’s right now, borrowing her laptop to post to the blog. Bailey is sitting next to me, panting and getting occasional tummy pets. The aran in in my lap. My sweater is almost done. Somehow it seemed like there was almost a foot to go on it, but […]
