Helpin’ with the Tri try
So Mike, our buddy Steve and I went out and rode our bikes over the course of the Texas State Triathalon this afternoon. It took us a frigging hour to get to the North shore of Canyon Lake where the ride will start. We unpacked our gear, got on our bikes, and proceeded to ride twenty-six of the hilliest miles I think I’ve ever ridden in my life. Well, that’s probably hyperbole - I’ve ridden in some pretty hilly places before. But being in the shape I’m in, and on top of yesterday’s ride, this was a total ball buster. (I do hope I am not offending the more gentle-minded readers out there. But I was in a lot of pain.)
We all survived and had some delicious barbeque afterwards. Mike is really going to have a challenge on the day of the race. As soon as the ride starts, you hit some stiff hills. And the terrain lends itself to some pretty stiff winds most of the time. The only really high point was coming down from a ridge of hills called the Devil’s Backbone. We hit 40 mph+ coming down that sucker. I was in my highest gear pedalling as hard as I could and my legs just gave out. That was one hell of a rush.
My nose and neck are a little sunburned, and my shoulders are very sore. But other than that, I think I’ll live.
