Bikes, Glyphs and Portents

First off, a very big congratulations goes out to my dear sister, who completed her first 28-mile ride on Saturday morning when she kicked butt in the Tour de Cure. I talked to her on the phone afterwards and she had the full-on endorphine high going on. She did a great job and I’m very proud of her.

My weekend was somewhat less athletic. On Friday I went to visit Morgan, who got treated for heart worms on Thursday. She was in pretty sad shape. She barely had the energy to get up when I stopped by to see her. I let her and Bailey out into the yard and then brought them back inside, where Morgan flopped down in the middle of the carpet and showed no interest in moving any farther. I lay down next to her and rubbed her tummy for a while. When it came time to go, I picked her up and deposited her back on Kelly’s bed, which is where I’d found her when I stopped by.

It was in the picking up of the 50 lb. dog that I made my mistake. I strained my back pretty badly. It did not hurt at all at the time, but on Saturday morning when I got up, I was feeling it pretty sharply. By Saturday night I was limping around, hunched over like an old man. I’m still pretty stiff, and I’m hoping that my pharmacy has filled my muscle relaxant prescription this morning.

Last night I had a dream that contained what I am sure is an omen, but I have no idea what it means. During this dream, which featured a weird dorm hall/hospital kind of setup, I found myself outside in a idyllic little wooded area. A brown and white owl swooped into view and landed on a hillside. A small deer – I think it was an axis, because it had white spots – trotted up next to the owl. The owl hopped onto the deer’s back and the deer walked off over the hillside. The owl wasn’t being predatory or anything; it was just hitching a ride.

Maybe I’m just reading too much Harry Potter these days. Like I said, I don’t know what the dream meant, but I do not normally see deer or owls in my dreams.

I took advantage of my jacked-up back to sit and do more programming yesterday. I added function to the cable grapher to allow it to draw symbolcraft-style knits and purls ( vertical and horizontal lines, respectively ). I have not made those changes on the live system yet, but I plan to put them up this week.

    Congratulations to your sister!
That’s great. Is cycling genetic? ggg
Thanks for the print help. I think I’ve just about got it down.
I don’t have a clue what your dream means…what did you eat the evening before? A bit of underdone beef…? GG Maybe the owl on the deer’s back was the pain in yours??
How is the shawl coming along? Did I miss the finish?
    Take Care,

The worst thing you can do for your back is sit down! Lay down flat or stand up straight.

I think your dream means that you are cautiously up for a new adventure.

If the owl means wisdom and the deer is for youthful energy and you were coming into the woods from a hospital hallway. I think it has to do with your back. Wisdom riding on the back of youthfull energy: I think you will be careful next time you lift the dog. Glad he (and you) are doing okay.
