The wonders of the age

In 1979, my family went to see a movie called Alien. I’m not sure whose idea it was. But within the first 20 minutes, I screamed my nine-year-old head off so loudly that we left the theatre and went to see Escape from Alcatraz instead.

(Since then, I’ve become a great fan of the Alien series.)

After the movie, we went to a Chinese restaurant called Shin’s Great Wall, which is unfortunately no longer in business. We ate great quantities of moo goo gai pan and kung pao chicken, and drank vast draughts of tea. So vast, in fact, that upon returning home, we were all too cranked up on caffeine to sleep. So we turned on the TV and channel surfed until we found a show that we all found intriguing.

That show was The Nightstalker.

It was a short-lived series about an investigative reporter who stumbled upon supernatural phenomena. It was the X-Files, except that it ran in the late 70s - early 80s. And we totally loved it.

Last night, while shopping for clothes in the local Target, I strolled through the DVD section and found a disc that contains two of the feature-length Nightstalker episodes. I am almost beyond words in the joy that I feel at this discovery. I’d post more info about it, but unless you’re my immediate famiy, it probably would not mean much to you. But suffice it to say that yesterday, I stumbled upon a great treat.

Which more than makes up for the bizzare nightmares I had last night. Whoever’s in charge of dreams, will you freaking lighten up already?

I remember the Nightstalker! That was the scariest show. My brother and I loved to watch it even though it would give us terrible nightmares. I remember an episode where the reporter Kolchak had to climb into a hearse and pour salt(I think) in a zombie’s mouth and sew it up in order to kill the zombie. Spooky!

Hey, I hear that insanity cures crappy dreams! Want to visit to the institution with me? Maybe shock therapy is still on offer!

Oh yeah, totally turning into Brenda Chenowith.

I was a complete _Nightstalker_ junkie as a kid: it was my absolute favorite show. Seriously. Recently, they had a marathon of _Nightstalker_ on the Sci-Fi channel, and my sister called me long distance because she knew I wouldn’t want to miss it.

    Of course, I was already watching the Sci-Fi channel, ’cause I’m a geek. . . .:-)

Sorry to hear about the bad dreams. What *kind* of bad dreams were they?

I loved the NightStalker but it used to scare the hell out of me. That was some scarry &^%$! I had to watch it through the crack between my fingers. I watched the first Alien movie and was scared of that too, so didn’t get into the others. Then as the years went by and I got a nerve or two I saw them playing the series on the scifi channel and had a blast watching them. Have you ever seen the movie Alien Mine? It’s awsome. Dennise Quade and Louet Gosset Jr. (sp) Gosset plays an awsome alien and he gives birth to little Zamies. Awsome, Awsome, if you like scifi.

Who knew there were so many people who watched that show??? I met two more over the weekend who also remembered it and asked if I could get copies of the DVD.

Stacey, I’m replying to you out-of-band.
