Kid ‘n Ewe

On Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, I went to the Kid ‘n Ewe (and Llamas too) show. We don’t get them big-city style shows down here like the Maryland or Rheinbeck ones; we just got us some simple down-home kinda events. But it was great.

For starters, the people were fantastic. A couple of hard sellers came up to me and explained how I really did need a knitting machine or I really did need a large bag of Angora roving - never mind that I’m a hand knitter or that I don’t know how to spin. But they were fairly easy to handle. The ones who were harder to say no to were the folks selling the spinning wheels who were willing to take 30 minutes to talk just to me and show me how to hold the wool while I fed it into the spindle on the wheel. Whew. It’s a good thing I did not bring my checkbook or I would have come home with some very expensive furniture.

These wheels were by Wyatt Wheels, a little outfit that’s located just a stone’s throw from my apartment. Something tells me that I’m going to be buying one of their wheels sometime in the next couple of years. But I’ll have to get used to a drop spindle first.

So, the people were great. Besides the vendors, there were demonstrations of felting and weaving and spinning (but no knitting… hmmmm) going on the entire time.

But then besides the people, there were the critters. Oh, the critters! If I lived in a house with a yard, I would have snagged myself a bunny. Or an alpaca. Or a Pomeranian puppy. (Do you usually find Poms at fiber shows? Weird, but I guess whatever works…)

    Puuuuuppies! Chewing on fingers!

The best part of yesterday was when a Maltese terrier licked my nose. Oh, that was good.

  3. Suzy Says:

Cute, yes, but I see Pomeranians as appetizers for real dogs! I grew up on a farm and dogs had a function, if they were cute it was a bonus! It was a great day! I could easily get into spinning too!

  4. J Says:

pomeranians are REAL dogs–not appetizers for them…be nice!

  16. Holly Says:

Poms are fast learners, not to pricy if you do your research. I love my little Paris. He is my little child seeing as we cant have kids. He sure does know it too. I was suppose to be about 6 lbs, YAH RIGHT…..12 lbs later and the vet says he’s fine.

My pomeranian looks like a little wolf/lion. He’s cream colored with light orange mixed in. He has basketball player legs and has a very independent personality. i was told he’d only weigh 5-6 lbs full grown, but here we are 14 POUNDS LATER!!! But he is the most adorable and sweet dog I’ve ever had. He’s the most handsome pom I’ve ever seen! I’m not biased, AM I? :)

CUTE POMS! i have one that looked just like that when she was a pup. shes almost 2 years old now n shes still so cute! she CAN be a lil bit teritorial… but only when she dosnt want to get out of the bed in the morning, shes grumpy. other than that shes the sweatest thing ever! and shes good with all the kids! i love poms!

  24. Ryan Says:

I have a 6 month old cream colored Pomeranian. He’s so energetic, learned so fast, and is so social and not teritorial at all. He lets my cat drink out of his bowl sometimes, as well as running up to perfect strangers and licking them, lol. He’s great. I bought him for 1200 but that was because he was champion sired and purebred. I’m sure you could get them for at least 600

If i put my face near his he would take his teeth and barely put them on nose and not bite!

  26. Julie Says:

We have two pomeranians, one brown, one blonde. They are beautiful, and unlike what some of you have said, do weigh about 6lb (well i’m an Aussie so i don’t do pounds, but they’re about 2.5 kg each). Our older one we got from the RSPCA, but our puppy we got from a breeder and she cost $450 (Australian). Pomeranians are the sweetest little dogs ever- get one! Our older dog is quite territorial, but the puppy is super friendly and will cuddle anyone. They are also very smart, in a goofy kind of way

  27. Amy Says:

Hi i come from denmark i wil have pomeranian dog so are you pretty

  28. i just ate Says:

    HOW CUTE

  29. Tammy Says:

I love this Pom love-fest! When I’m having a bad day at work, I type “Pomeranian” into a search engine and look at their pictures. I totally agree with Aussie Julie’s comments: “very smart, in a goofy kind of way.” They are just natural hams. My black, 7-pound pomapoo does the same thing that Liz said — stands on her back legs and waves her arms in the air, as if she’s waving goodbye. She also chases our 100-pound Lab around, nipping him in the back legs as if herding him. When he gets sick of her, he stops short and she runs into his back legs. They also play “fight,” and people marvel over how gentle Jake (the big guy) is with her. He could easily fit her whole head into his mouth, but he has never so much as caused her to yelp. Dogs are the best.

  30. angel Says:

Pomeranians are sooo cute. i have one that is almost a year old. his name is prince nikolus. i had another one for eight years, but he’s no longer with us. nik is so entergitic and playful. he’s ruf with adults, but when he plays with my 5 year old neice, he is so gentle, and when my other 4 month old neice is around, he gently licks her hand care full not to hurt her…. every body loves him!!!!

  31. Pomeranian Puppy Says:

Coming from a pomeranian, I’d like you to know that we are the sweetest dogs on earth! We are very yappy, however.

I cannot argue with any of the above comments made about how cute the poms are. I adopted my little girl Stella 2 1/2 years ago she was 6 weeks old. But I would like to let evryone know that past all the cute adorable faces and the oooo so soft coats are little hell raisers if they do not get there way. I have owned dogs for many years and although I love my Stella dearly she was to hardest dog to potty train that I have evr owned. She is also my first Pom . I own Shelites. Stella is a very loving little girl and she has moved along quite quickly in the world of Agility. But there are still times when she doesnt get what she wants that she can be very distructive. So I feel like you all should know that Poms in my opion need alot of companionship with humans and they are not at all a pet to leave locked up all day alone, not that any dog is . But Poms require alot of atttention and lots of activities to be envolved in. So before you run out and adopt a Pom make sure you have the time to spend on house training and behavior mod.
Good luck to all you future Pom owners

I came here (like many of you) to get some cyber puppy-lovin. I have had 3 Poms. Actually, the first one my parents had a couple of years before my brother and i were born. The last one, Badger, was purebred of champion show stock - but he had the weeist little kink in the end of his tail, so it was decided that he wasn’t show quality - but boy was he ever family quality! He was about 7 pounds when he was fully grown and was sable (multi-colored). He had the greatest assertive personality, and was quite protective of us and the property - He even challenged a buck (male deer) who was eating one of our Ash trees. He was incredibley smart and liked to dig tunnels in the snow in the winter, but he wasn’t keen on little kids. Unfortunatrly, he passed away when he was about 9 years old. My mom thinks he had a stroke. I would love to own another little gentleman, but unfortunately, my husband and I don’t have the time to properly take care of a poochie, and I think I might compare a new Pom to my last one.
