Well, good morning sunshine.
It’s funny how things build up. A small series of apparently disconnected events can suddenly align to form a chain of events that directly impacts you. Case in point: someone someplace in Europe suddenly notices that their server has had a problem, and they need to restore from a backup. Lo and behold, the local backup is bad; they need to restore from an auxillary tape backup.
They call their tech support. The tech support person who answers the phone looks at a list of people to call, and in a minor dyslexic moment, the call the number one row up from the one they meant to.
Earlier that same week, the on-call schedule for a group completely uninvolved with backups rolled over, but the new on-call person forgot to update the on-call list.
At 4:00 AM, my phone rings with its “EMERGENCY” ring-tone. I sit bolt upright in bed and scramble for the phone. A voice with an English accent asks if I can help out with a backup restoration.
So, that’s how my day started. So since I had to get up in two and a half hours anyway, I went ahead and started on a batch of brownies. As I am preparing the frosting, I shall set aside a small portion and mix it well with dish soap, then add enough mint extract to cover up the soapy taste. That brownie will later be given to the person who is supposed to be on call.
Mu-ha ha ha ha.

This puts an entirely new spin on the phrase “special brownie”.
