My brain really hurts.
I’m going to let my work intrude into the blog for just a second, just because I found a historically interesting website while working on a project.
Here’s what may be the first website with non-English characters in its name. Shrimp sandwiches, anyone?
The content of the site’s not the point; it’s that the name of the site is Räksmörgås.josefßon.org. Hey look, those aren’t English characters! That’s what I’ve been doing for the last several weeks - making sites with those kinds of characters work for the customers of the company I work for.
Note: That link may not work for you, depending on the security settings of your browser. Because the set of international characters includes duplicates (a Cyrillic “o” and an English “o” look the same, but they are different characters), it’s possible to use extended characters as part of a phishing attack. This link, for example, does NOT take to you the real microsoft.com: micrοsοft.com. It might look like “microsoft.com”, depending on your browser’s settings.
You would not believe what a complete pain in the ass it is to get those working.
Oh yeah - two milestones have just been broken here at Sweaterproject. Over 500 posts and 2,000 comments. W00t!
