Define irony.
Irony is having a system that’s run for a year without backup and getting nervous about it, so you go out and buy a stack of DVDs to back up your precious media. And then the backup program scrags your hard drive.
I am really hoping I can find some way to access a serial ATA drive that doesn’t even show up under my disk utilities anymore. I’ve got a *lot* of media on that thing that I’d really rather not lose.

Have you tried hooking it up to another Mac using Firewire and Target mode? This saved me once before. I’ve got a Firewire cable if you need one.

that sucks. i’ve started to keep multiple hard drives in hopes that i don’t lose the last 20 years of my life. but at some point, it is all an act of faith and a lesson in the transience of material (even virtual material) stuff. that being said, i will likely promptly lose all of my music files and then wail about it.
