My niece says I’ve got a problem.

I re-arranged my room today so that I could then do some stash organizing.

I dumped all but two of my bags of stash on the bed. This of course does not include the yarn in my knitting basket, or the box of lovely cashmere that Kaetchen sent me for my birthday, or the odd balls of merino that I’ve got on my bookshelf near my computer.

Or the Sugar ‘n Cream in the back seat of my car.

Or the Lamb’s Pride on my bookshelf.

*sigh*

Anyway, I don’t think this is at all abnormal:

  1. Jill Says:

It’s not a problem until you’ve moved out of your room. THEN, it may be a problem

  2. Stephieface Says:

That is not abnormal at all….. though I do question the normalcy of the stuffed kitty thing on your pillow.
The kitty better be something delightfully manish… like a condom cozy or something… someplace to stash man things where girls won’t expect it. I’m just sayin’.

  3. ashley Says:

Nah.. that’s not a problem. I had enough acrylic alone to cover my bed…and that was just one box of yarn.. I have 3. :-)

  4. Juno Says:

    Piffle. That’s nuthin’.

  5. Paula in Iowa Says:

The only problem I see is that you haven’t enough yarn, really. Sooo, what is this niece’s problem???

  6. cari Says:

Seriously. You should see Juno’s yarn closet…

  7. Judy Says:

Nothing to worry about yet, it can still fit in one box…you just need to keep getting bigger boxes as the stash gets bigger. Then yarn house syndrome strikes…

    Judy

  8. Kim Says:

The bed isn’t totally covered yet so you have a ways to go before we have an intervention!

  9. Hilary Says:

Is it bad that I want to lie on it?

  10. sandy Says:

    Lightweight~ :D

  11. The Fiddlin' Fool Says:

At least there is only one of you. There are two knitters in our household, which seems to double our stash expansion size. I’ve heard, however, that sock yarn doesn’t count as stash (something I’ve never understood), so it’s possible we’re better off than many.

  12. Susan Says:

You can still see the bedspread! That’s not so bad….but the kitty makes me nervous.

  13. courtney Says:

That’s not bad at all. I have an entire dresser full of yarn. My husband shows it to people when they come over like it’s some sort of spectacle.

  14. pippy Says:

I gotta box like that, and also several smaller boxes.
Its pathological. There is no cure that I know of. Maybe we need a 12-step program??

  15. Marnie Says:

Niece??? Is there something you need to tell me???

  16. Plum Texan Says:

Pish, tosh. I think mine is about the same…maybe even slightly bigger…and I am on the low end of most of the stashers I know.

Personally, I like the critter on your pillow.

  17. Alison Says:

Your niece is a muggle (to steal the phrase from the Yarn Harlot) isn’t she?

Really the only thing preventing my stash from being that big is the grad school budget and the lack of any remaining storage space in my apartment.

  18. Aarlene Says:

Hmmm, your niece didn’t then offer to take some of that ‘excess’ yarn off your hands, did she? Clever monkey.

  19. Cynthia Says:

Stash? You have a yarn stash? Where?

  20. bonnie Says:

You know what? This is like an alcoholic saying they don’t have a drinking problem because they are only having “just 1 beer”…and then you find them with their hands caught in that cupboard over the fridge where you keep the rum for the holiday punch and they are looking guilty.

And look at all the “enablers” (oops, *ahem*…”commenters”) pattin’ you on the back for such a small stash. Pffft.

Take the picture again and include: the other two BAGS you left out, the knitting basket (bet yours is just as big as mine LOL), the cashmere, the merino, the cotton and the lamb’s pride…..THEN I’ll tell you whether or not your neice is sadly mistaken or not.
I think that kittydoll up there is chuckling because he knows what the real stash looks like.

    Neener neener….and all that.

  21. Suzy Says:

If you had a larger bed, the stash would still be small. I think the kitty needs a companion!

  22. Jess, of the Bugs Says:

Nah, you’re good. You’ve got me beat on quality and volume of yarn, but only just on the volume. I keep quite a bit of acrylic on hand for the occasional TCA (that’s Tacky Crocheted Afghan).

  23. Wendy Says:

You DO have a problem. You don’t have nearly enough yarn! Only two more bags? You poor thing.

And the other problem is that you don’t appear to have any real fiber stash. You don’t even have a stash until you have at least 6 bags of unspun fiber and at least one whole fleece waiting to be washed.

Oh – and dyes. Don’t forget the dyes.

    You better get shopping, dude!

  24. Ellen-Mary Says:

You call that a stash? :) I can still see the comforter.

  25. Jason Says:

Problem? Wait until you start collecting bags and bags of fluffy unspun fiber. Bwahahahaha!

    Hmmm… what’s that on the bookselves? :-D

  26. Lisak Says:

That doesn’t look like a king-sized bed. What the problem?

  27. =Tamar Says:

Look at the ears: that’s not a kitty, it’s a lamb, watching over the stash.
The stash? Reasonable, I’d say. A rational person would stop buying until you’ve knitted up at least half of it, but don’t look at me for an example; my stash is approximately 10x yours (including the stuff not in the photo).

  28. carrie Says:

*clap clap* Don’t listen to your niece. You need more. Lots of those skeins don’t have mates, do they? Well, then, for any large project, it’s back to the yarn store. By the by, what is the lot of oatmeal colored yarn for? I like your stash. Name it, love it, defend it, and let it grow…

  29. Hilary Says:

That kitty thing is Koolah. Whatever SHE is. ;-)

  30. julia fc Says:

Juno’s? Hell, you should see mine! (but she might actually let you see hers. Only people who own wheels or are thinking of buying one get to see mine.)

  31. Monica Says:

I totally raised my eyebrows and stopped short when I saw that photo. And then I realized that I’ve got, ahem, a lot more in my yarn room. I guess it has greater impact when it’s in a big pile like that.

  32. MLO Says:

LOL… My husband has an issue with my yarn stash that is growing so much that my local knitting friends have been known to ask if I have stuff (think small projects) when the stores are closed – or they don’t want to hit Meijer’s!

  33. amanda Says:

Yeah, it’s tiny. Someday I’ll send you a picture of my basement. I was until I started saying “but it’s for business purposes”, so I’d better get selling and publishing.
