See what I’ve been driven to?

Tuesday, February 14th, 2006

I’ve been productive, no doubt about that. But these Knitting Olympics are driving me to extremes that I never thought I’d go to. In the drive to stay awake, I’ve had to turn to chemical enhancement.

Thing is, I’m really picky about how much sweetener I put in my coffee. You can’t be [...]

First Weekend’s Progress

Monday, February 13th, 2006

Here’s the beginning of the kilt hose. A sock kit, if you will:

I bought a new set of rosewood needles for this project, and so far they feel fantastic in my hands. They’re a definite improvement over bamboo, which surprises me because I’ve always loved bamboo needles. But at such small [...]

Here we go

Sunday, February 12th, 2006

Now it’s on. I finished the first sock last night at about 7:30, then promptly dove into the kilt hose. I’ve decided to go with an ultra-simple pattern for them. I’d like to have a pair with cables and fancy ribbing, but when doing time-constrained knitting, tradeoffs must be made.
I am really [...]

It’s On!

Saturday, February 11th, 2006

Well, it’s almost on. The Olympic flame has been lit! The Knitting Olympics have begun!
Oh, and a bunch of athletes are doing their thing in Italy, too. Whatever.
I haven’t yet finished the prototype sock, so I haven’t cast on yet. Yeah, I know, time wasted can never be regained. I’ll [...]

Behold the socky goodness

Monday, February 6th, 2006

I realized yesterday that there is no way in hell that I’m going to finish a pair of knee-high socks during the Knitting Olympics. That is unless I go without sleep, or grow another pair of hands so that I can type and knit at the same time. But I’m happy with the [...]

Suspiciously Familiar

Monday, January 30th, 2006

If this looks awfully familiar, there’s a good reason for it. Behold the beginning of yet another sock.

Once more, with feeling. I never received the package with the last pair of socks that I attempted, so I can only assume that someone stole the package when they broke into the mail boxes at [...]

In training for the games

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006

So I spent most of the weekend in training. It was time well spent - I think I’m going to have to change my strategy for doing the kilt hose a little bit.
My original plan was to make a cabled garter for the top of the sock that would be knit perpendicularly to the [...]

In which teeth are gnashed

Friday, January 20th, 2006

GAAAAH!!!!
Grrr.
*&@#*&$.
I swung by the mail sorting facility where my mail was being held this morning. To make a long story short, my yarn, needles and half-knit sock are gone. No idea what has become of them.
(To expand ever so slightly - the service at sorting facilities sucks. They don’t normally do customer [...]

No news is no news

Monday, January 16th, 2006

Nothing to report on the socks. It’s not that I’ve been ignoring my knitting, it’s that I don’t have the socks to work on them.
See, I left them at my mom’s two weeks ago. She very kindly mailed them to me so that I could resume work without having to drive 200 miles [...]

First Sock Cuff

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2006

I may yet fall prey to the dreaded sock-knitting addiction. Here’s the first attempt so far.

This is the Brooks Farm Duet that I got in 2004 at Kid ‘n Ewe. It’s a wool/mohair blend, and it’s coming out all warm and soft and springy. I can’t wait to try them out.
